India has the highest ever goods exports in a quarter


India recorded the highest exports of all time in the first quarter from April to June 2021, Union Trade Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference, the minister said: “India had the highest exports ever in the first quarter from April to June 2021. The highest ever export of goods in a quarter of $ 95 billion was from April through June despite the severity of the second wave of COVID-19. “

In numerical terms, exports are expected to be $ 95 billion, 16 percent more than FY18-19 first quarter exports of $ 82 billion. In the fourth quarter of FY20, exports exceeded $ 90 billion.

Goyal said sector-specific interventions, involvement of all stakeholders, and the functioning of the government as a whole have helped achieve growth. “Simplifying procedures, extending deadlines and licenses, all of these have resulted in record exports,” he added.

The minister went on to say that the service sector’s performance is also excellent, with almost 97% of the 2019-20 service export level achieved in the last financial year despite the pandemic. He said that after consulting with stakeholders, he was confident that $ 350 billion in service exports could be reached by 2025 and could even rise to $ 500 billion very soon.

Goyal also said India has set a target of $ 400 billion in goods exports for 2021-22. “In cooperation with private industry, the MSME sector, mechanical engineering, agriculture, the automotive industry and the steel sector, we have set ourselves an export target of 400 billion US dollars.
