Michael Kuruvila, originally from Kottayam, becomes Brookfield Police Chief | Keralite in Brookfield Police | US police


Washington: The Keralite Michael Kuruvila is named police chief of Brookfield, a city in the US state of Illinois. Michael is from Mannanam in Kottayam. Interestingly, he is the first Indian named to the top tier of the Brookfield Police Department.

Michael Kuruvila will take over as police chief on July 12th. The Brookfield Agency approved his name on the recommendation of Acting Police Chief Edward Petrak.

“He has all the skills and knowledge to be a police chief. He has 15 years of experience in the department, ”Petrak said in an interview with a regional magazine.

Michael Kuruvila, 37, is currently the deputy chief of the Brookfield Police Department. The officer, who was appointed in 2006, is the first Indian to serve in the Brookfield Police Department.

He joined the police force after graduating from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a degree in social work.

Before starting as a police officer, he worked as a social worker with the Brookfield Police Department.

“I didn’t plan to go to the police. It was actually a coincidence. But within a few years I became more passionate about my job, ”said Michael Kuruvila.

In 2020, the International Association of Police honored him with the Police Award for officers under 40 years of age.

Michael Kuruvila is the son of John Kuruvila and Celena, a family member of Parappallil Chira. His wife Sibil is also a social worker in the USA.
